FMB Membership
The FMB is a trade association that promotes professionalism and high quality workmanship among small and medium-sized building firms throughout the UK.
There are several things consumers are encouraged to look out for to help them make a choice and distinguish reputable firms from ‘cowboys’. This includes membership of a construction scheme or membership body.
Membership of the Federation of Master Builders is an assurance of the quality of your workmanship and that it will be carried out to a high standard.
Only those builders and specialists who can prove their skills and good business standing are accepted as members.
Membership criteria and checks include:
- A minimum of 12 months trading
- 6 references including one from a 'professional' or Local Authority Building Control
- Public and employer liability insurance
- VAT registration (where appropriate)
- Confirmation of business address/details
- Public record and director checks

Normal price: Sign-up & annual FMB membership subscription £622.75 inc VAT + £7 BBI donation
Member price: You pay just £370 ex VAT (£434.75 inc VAT) + £7 BBI donation if you sign up before 31st July 2010
