How PR works

06/12/2009 18:18:25

To get a mention in the media you need to be doing something that will interest and entertain others. This is not an opportunity for you to “sell” your services but it is a chance to put you and your business in a good light.

Stories that work include:

  • A community project, charity work or local sponsorship that you are involved with.
  • New and exciting methods of working or building techniques.
  • How you have created a new building or space for a customer.
  • Customer case studies and endorsements - for instance: how that extension helped a disabled person or the loft conversion enabled someone to start their own business.
  • Advice and warning stories - showing people that you are an expert by commenting on legislation or dangers.
  • Business stories - new specialist equipment you have bought or staff you have taken on.

The important thing is to find something that people will read, find interesting and tell others about - not a list of your skills that they will skip over and go on to the next story.
